Battle Cat, who’s alter-ego is Cringer, is a very courageous animal. When he is Cringer, however, he is very timid. He was changed into Battle Cat accidentally when He-Man held his sword in cringer’s direction and a beam of energy hit Cringer. This was not a bad transformation, however, because Battle Cat helps He-Man during battle with his swift movement.

Prince Adam met Cringer the first time when he was exploring a jungle. He found Cringer as a kitten being attacked by a saber cat. Adam fended off the evil cat, and brought Cringer home. He was then cared for by Man-At-Arms. When Cringer was well, Adam adopted him as his pet. Cringer was scared easily, so Teela teased Adam and called the kitten a Cringer, where he got his name. The sorceress of Castle Grayskull then appeared to Adam and told him that even though Cringer was being teased at now, he will be of great importance later in his life.

Some years passed, and Adam was given the power to become He-Man. Adam never told Cringer about this power. But in an archeological dig, Prince Adam was attacked by a recently released monster and transformed into He-Man. He did not know, however, that Cringer was watching him the whole time. He-Man tried to reassure that he was actually Prince Adam, and held out his sword in Cringer’s direction. Then, a beam of energy hit Cringer from He-Man’s sword, turning Cringer into Battle Cat for the first time. Adam was shocked and surprised at how much more courage Battle Cat had than Cringer. Using Battle Cat, He-Man was able to defeat the released monster and save his group.
